Background & Research

In modern Chinese society, the prevailing environment of overwork has left young people without their own life, and they got stuck in the social problem of excessive overwork.

News such as company squeeze, severe work overtime and karoshi are very commonplace, making young people feel very desperate.

Actually, such things happen around me all the time.

One of my friends, a former colleague once asked me helplessly: "Is there any company in China that doesn’t work overtime and doesn’t squeeze employees?"

I know there are many good companies, and I've experienced many that I was happy to work there and didn't work overtime.

However, since the first day I joined that company, she began to complain about how unbearable it was and wanted to quit. She joined the company one year before I did, but stayed there until I left.

Because in her mind, she really thought that all companies were just like that one, ripping off employees, unregulated, and forcing employees to work overtime meaninglessly. Young people like my colleague are imprisoned by what they see, whether it's the news or the brainwashing of leaders. This made me decide to make this animation.

Noise

Added some noise in the background part of the later section, so as to create a distorted and weird feeling.

Character and scene design

The main character of this story is also based on my colleague. Black hair, glasses, a white shirt and jeans are the most common attire for green hands. I also hope that viewers can have a certain sense of substitution for such images.

The first view is the mistress’ home, which is the epitome of many green hands' rooms in China. It is a studio with simple decoration. However, throwing clothes, paper balls, unclosed computers and withered flowers everywhere in the home all show that the hostess is very busy and has no time to take care of the housekeeping.

The white space that goes out is a space composed of various office supplies, emphasizing the connection between the whole space, work and the company.

The protagonist's best friend is also the faceless woman that the protagonist met in the first scene. It can be seen that this role is different from other roles and the general environment. Her colour is brighter and warmer, and her small scene is also a natural scene, which is completely different from the overall cold office space. This highlights that although she also has some strange points, she is more inviting, and it is more reasonable for the protagonist to decide to find her later.

As you can see, this is a programmer's scene. Plaid shirt is the most common clothing worn by Chinese programmers, which is even a well-known joke on the Internet, so I also designed plaid shirt clothing for this programmer.

Baldhead is a common problem encountered by many programmers because they work too hard. So in this scene, the character can be seen losing hair at a strange speed.

This scene setting is a market planner, and you can see many traces left by notes of brainstorming. The character himself has been using the mouse and staring at the computer. The front of the character looks normal, which is why the protagonist chose to ask him for help at the beginning. However, with the change of angle, we can see the abnormal bending and length of his neck. This design is intended to allude to the common cervical spondylosis and forward-head of white-collar workers.

This character is a designer, and you can see that there are some waste papers, posters and mannequin ornaments in her scenes to highlight her identity.

However, designers always encounter many unreasonable demands from customers and leaders. For example, the most common one is that a customer requires designers to design a very colorful black.

Such unreasonable requirements and amendments are numerous and have been bothering most designers. Therefore, various strange amendments can also be seen in the animation, floating into the designer's eyes, turning her eyes into two black holes.
